Paul Smith (พอล สมิธ) แบรนด์แฟชั่นชั้นนำจากประเทศอังกฤษ จัดงาน “PAUL SMITH-THE ART SOCIETY” นิทรรศการแสดงผลงานศิลปะ จากแรงบันดาลใจของ ดีไซน์เนอร์ผู้ยิ่งใหญ่ พอล สมิธ ถ่ายทอดโดย 8 บุคคลชื่อดังจากหลากหลาย สาขาอาชีพซึ่งล้วนเป็นมืออันดับต้นๆ ในวงการ นำโดย ม.ล. จิราธร จิรประวัติ, วสันต์ ผึ่งประเสริฐ, สุทธิศักดิ์ สุจริตตานนท์, อมตะ หลูไพบูลย์, สันติพงษ์ คงรักษ์, ภัทรพล จันทร์คำ, ญารินดา บุนนาค และ พงษ์สรวง คุณประสพ สร้างสรรค์ผลงานศิลปะในแนวถนัดของตัวเอง พร้อมด้วยแฟชั่นโชว์คอลเลคชั่นล่าสุด Autumn-Winter 2007 ณ พระที่นั่งเทวราชสภารมย์ พระราชวังพญาไท

Paul Smith, the pre-eminent British designer brand, artistically launched “PAUL SMITH- THE ART SOCIETY” exhibition showcasing the masterpieces of art crafted under the inspiration of legendary designer Paul Smith by 8 first-class socialites from a broad array of industries, including M.L.Chiratorn Chirapravati, Wasan Puengprasert, Suthisak Sucharittanonta, Amata Luphiboon, Suntipong Kongrak, Pattarapol Chantkam, Yarinda Bunnag, and Pongsuang Kunprasop. They all graced their art works with individual preferences before the fashion show of the latest Autumn-Winter 2007 collection emerged at the Thewarat Sapharom Hall, The Phya Thai Palace.

“ด้วยความรู้สึกว่าพอล สมิธเป็นศิลปะของอังกฤษอย่างแท้จริง ประกอบกับความประทับใจที่มีกับลวดลาย Multi-Strip (มัลติ-สไตร์ป) ซึ่งเปรียบเสมือน signature ที่ทำให้นึกถึง พอล สมิธ จึงได้คอนเซ็ปต์การถ่ายภาพจากการใช้สีสัน เอามาจัดเรียงเป็น กราฟฟิคในมุมมองของตัวเอง โดยทำตัวนางแบบให้เป็นสีขาวซีด ตัดกับโทนสีเสื้อผ้าของ พอล สมิธ และใช้เทคนิคการถ่ายจริงซ้อนทับกัน 3 หน เรียกว่าการถ่ายรูปแบบ Double Exposure ภาพที่ออกมาจึงดูลวงตาด้วยความละลานของสี มีกลิ่นอายของศิลปะแบบอิมเพรสชั่นนิสต์”

“The first thing that came to my mind was Paul Smith’s multi-colour stripes. I’ m a fashion photographer, so I decided to do a shoot with a model whose skin was painted in white, in contrast with Paul Smith’s vibrant colours. It just gives a look as an Impressionist using double-exposure technique.”

“จากความประทับใจในเรื่องราวชีวิตและผลงานของ พอล สมิธ ซึ่งได้รับการถ่ายทอดไว้หนังสือ ‘You can find inspiration in everything’ พอล สมิธ ไม่เคยเล่าเรียนด้านการออกแบบมาก่อน แต่มีความสนใจในแฟชั่น จึงมุ่งมั่นเข้าเรียนตัดเย็บจนในที่สุดประสบความสำเร็จ ในฐานะแฟชั่นดีไซเนอร์ จึงได้พล็อตที่ต้องการสื่อสารกับคนดู โดยบอกใบ้ว่าเวลาที่คนเรา สับสนคิดอะไรไม่ออกก็ต้องว้าวุ่นและอึดอัด แต่เมื่อได้พบแรงบันดาลใจก็จะมีทางออกรออยู่ บรรยากาศในหนังจะมีความน่าอึดอัดในตอนต้น แต่แล้วสุดท้ายก็จะค่อยๆคลี่คลายออก เหมือนที่ พอล สมิธ บอกไว้ในหนังสือว่า You can find inspiration in everything”

I believe that the essence that drives him to one of the world's greatest designer is inspiration. Inspiration that can come from anything, anywhere, anytime. And when that moment of inspiration hits you, it willl drive you to a creative solution. My film is a journal of that journey that leads to a climatic moment of inspiration.”

ผลงาน ‘เล่น’ กับสระว่ายน้ำ
“เริ่มกำหนดคอนเซ็ปต์ของงานนี้โดยศึกษาแนวคิดการออกแบบในสไตล์ Classic with A Twist ของ    แบรนด์ พอล สมิธ จึงตั้งใจจะทำงานสถาปัตยกรรมที่ประกอบจากวัสดุก่อสร้างทั่วไป ผสมผสานกับวัสดุอื่นที่ดูง่ายๆ ซื่อๆ  แต่ให้ความสนุกสนาน สระว่ายน้ำที่ออกแบบ จึงมีที่ตั้งแผงโพลีคาร์โบเนตแบบใส โดยบรรจุหลอดกาแฟหลากสีลงไปในช่อง ซึ่งความหลากสีของหลอดกาแฟ ถือเป็นโมทิฟซึ่งมองได้โดยง่ายในความเชื่อมโยงที่มีกับ พอล สมิธ สระว่ายน้ำนี้เมื่อน้ำนิ่ง จะเห็นแถบสีทั้งหมดวางเรียงสงบนิ่ง แต่เมื่อเริ่มมีคนลงเล่นน้ำ กระแสคลื่นจะขยับแถบสีใน แผ่นโพลีคาร์โบเนตขึ้นลงตามคลื่น เปรียบเหมือนสระว่ายน้ำนี้ “เล่น” กับคนด้วย ยิ่งมีคนลงเล่นน้ำมาก สระก็จะยิ่งเล่นสนุกมากขึ้น”

“Paul Smith’s designs such as clothing, accessories, furniture, china and striped MINI car are classics with a twist.  So I decided to use ordinary construction materials together with a few others which are quite simple, straight forward but lively, just like Paul Smith.  The crucial thing is to develop something that can interact with viewers.”

“เนื่องจากมอง พอล สมิธ ว่าเป็นแบรนด์เสื้อผ้าเครื่องแต่งกายซึ่งมีบุคลิกชัดเจน เป็นแฟชั่นที่ไม่หยุดนิ่งสามารถเติมแต่ง ลูกเล่นได้มากมาย ประกอบกับความเป็นศิลปินในตัวของ พอล สมิธ รวมถึงเสื้อผ้าที่ทำให้นึกถึงคนที่มีเอกลักษณ์ แต่งตัวเท่ๆ มีครีเอทีฟ จึงทำให้เกิด แรงบันดาลใจ ซึ่งนำไปสู่ความคิดเรื่องการเชื่อมโยงความเท่เข้ากับงานศิลปะ ผลงานครั้งนี้จึง เป็นเหมือนประติมากรรม มากกว่าการจัดดอกไม้ โดยใช้ผลไม้ ใบไม้ในโทนสีเขียวเข้ม ไล่ไปจนถึงสีเขียวอ่อนมาจัดวาง ให้ได้รูปลักษณ์ของเสาซึ่งมีลวดลายของศิลปะแบบโรมัน”

“พอล สมิธ ทำให้นึกถึงความเป็นอังกฤษ ในแง่ของการออกแบบที่มีความเป็นผู้ดี ซึ่งแฝงรายละเอียดไม่เหมือนใคร และเน้นเรื่องความคิดเป็นหลัก (conceptual design) ส่วนแรงบันดาลใจของผลงานเกิดจากความความชื่นชอบในตัว ‘Bendi’ ตัวการ์ตูนซึ่งมีบุคลิกร่าเริง ไม่หยุดนิ่ง ซึ่งแอบอยู่ใต้พื้นรองเท้าของ พอล สมิธ ผสานกับตัวเองซึ่งเป็นคนชอบการเดินทาง จึงได้ไอเดียจึงออกแบบเป็นที่แขวนเสื้อโค้ท หมวก หรือผ้าพันคอ ซึ่งสามารถนำไปจัดท่าทางหรือวางตรงไหนก็ได้ในร้านของ พอล สมิธ และอีกจุดประสงค์หนึ่งคือต้องการจะเรียกรอยยิ้มของคนที่เข้ามาในร้าน เพราะคนอังกฤษนั้นมีอารมณ์ตลกร้ายแฝงอยู่ด้วยเสมอ”

“I found the character Bendi printed on the sole of Paul Smith shoes. I think it’s one of the label’s logos, but perhaps not as familiar as others.”

“To me, Paul Smith is quintessentially English in that their designs carry a certain aristocratic look with unusual details. Quintessentially English designs are normally influenced by concept or known to us as conceptual designs.”

“เวลาที่นึกถึง พอล สมิธ จะนึกถึงลายทางหลากสี ซึ่งมีปรากฏเป็นภาพกราฟฟิค 2 มิติบนเสื้อผ้า หรือ สิ่งพิมพ์ จึงเกิดเป็นไอเดียที่จะนำมาทำให้เกิดเป็นงาน 3 มิติอย่างการสร้างโชว์รูม โดยเลือกใช้วัสดุที่ให้แถบเส้นแบบเป็นธรรมชาติอย่างไม้อัด มาวางเรียงซ้อนกันเป็นชั้นทั้งห้องจากพื้นถึงเพดาน รวมถึงใช้เรียงซ้อนกัน ให้เกิดเป็นรูปร่างของเฟอร์นิเจอร์อย่างที่วางโชว์สินค้า ภาพโดยรวมจะสื่อถึงความเรียบง่าย เข้าใจง่าย และประยุกต์ใช้งานได้จริงอย่างหลากหลายแบบ”

“Inspired by Paul Smith’s Signature Stripes, The concept of the showroom is based on the layering of plywood, an inherently striped material, to create a three-dimensional stripe-scape. The fluid topography of the contours enhances the layering of the plywood, allowing one to truly appreciate the presence of the stripes!”

“พอล สมิธทำให้นึกถึงดนตรีร็อคแบบอังกฤษยุค 1990s ซึ่งเต็มเปี่ยมด้วยอารมณ์กวนและขี้เล่น จึงทำให้ได้คอนเซ็ปต์ศิลปะแนว Op-Art ซึ่งเป็นการเล่นลวดลายกราฟฟิคที่ทำให้ตาลาย และสามารถนำมาผสานกับแถบสี Multi-Stripe ของ พอล สมิธ ได้ดี ส่วนถ้อยคำที่นำมาใช้นั้น ถ้ามองถึงแรงบันดาลใจความขี้เล่น อาจทำให้เข้าใจว่าเป็นการนำเสนอผลงานในแง่ลบปนประชดประชัน แต่ความจริงแล้วต้องการสื่อข้อความส่วนตัวว่าเป็นคนไม่ชอบใส่เสื้อลายขวางเท่านั้น”

Graphic Design-‘I don’t like horizontal stripes’
“I thought of playful British rock bounds, having grown up with 90’s Brit rock. Paul Smith’s Englishness and Brit rock naturally go together.”

“Being a graphic designer, I decided to do an Op-Art piece that plays around with eye-dazzling graphic motifs. Although I personally don’t wear horizontal stripes, I still feel that Paul Smith is a very interesting artist.”
